You will learn how to use the main functions of PMI (Product Manufacturing Information) in Siemens NX, but also how to go further in terms of collaboration, using easily Xcelerator Share from Siemens Digital Industries Software.
But first, let's start by defining what these PMIs are !
Product Manufacturing Information (PMI) is used in CAD and/or collaborative product development systems to convey product and manufacturing information.
PMI or Product Manufacturing Information is a set of annotations made directly on the virtual 3D product in the SIemens NX CAD and CAM software. They allow product and design teams to capture and associate the manufacturing requirements of a component directly with the 3D model.
By associating the PMI with a "living" part that can evolve, the NX environment facilitates the reuse of information throughout the product life cycle. In addition, because PMIs are compliant with industry standards for 3D product definition, design teams now have the ability to use 3D models to avoid design and manufacturing errors.
Specifically, PMIs convey information such as geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, 3D annotation (text), surface finish and material specifications. All of this information is useful for good decision making between the design and manufacturing teams.
To start using PMI in NX, it is necessary to activate the application.
To discover this PMI application in NX easily we will add a simple PMI. We will add a "linear" PMI between the two flanges.
Finally you can cut a part or an assembly to add sectional views and add annotations. In the NX software the cutaway views are created quite easily, see below.
In NX it is easy to create standardized annotations such as surface conditions, shape tolerances etc.
The Siemens NX SaaS offer allows you to access the Xcelerator Share platform for free and easily.
This collaborative platform allows you to upload your project to the cloud and share it with members of your team, or even external actors without the need for a Siemens NX license.
