The VDA methodology

The actual processes, strengths, weaknesses and desires are recorded in interviews, based on the company's and objectives. This information and the comparison of actual and possible target processes allow potentials and benefits to be identified and quantified. The VDA allows both the customer and JANUS to identify the critical factors behind these initiatives and questions.

The VDA methodology makes it possible to identify and describe the improvement potential and benefits in the processes and areas under consideration. The result is an objective basis for interdisciplinary, interdepartmental and interorganisational scenarios within a CAD/CAM/PLM project. Tje assessment also promotes internal cooperation.

VDA - what happens?

Part 1: Preparation

To start the VDA, the scope of topics, the assessment participants and the method of documenting the results are defined. In this discussion it is important to give all participants an overview of the current processes and ensure that they understand the organisation. The business objectives and initiatives are identified, the interviews are scheduled and the relevant participants are invited to attend. 

Part 2: Interviews

Group interviews generally last between 1-3 hours, individual interviews last about an hour, and are completed within five days. All interviews with process experts or key users deal with "their normal working day". The questions themselves only provide a framework for the interviews, as they frequently develop into lively discussions about the processes at the workplace. These meetings address and clarify the most important points. 

Part 3: Analysis

The results of the interviews are then evaluated and analysed for possible improvement potentials. After the initial analysis phase, the initial results are discussed and weighted with the customer's contacts. This is then repeated several times before the results are structured and summarised in a final presentation. 

Part 4: Presentation and documentation of the results

The results of the VDA are displayed in two final presentations. The first presentation is generally held for the client and the management, while the second involves all the interview participants. The first final presentation discusses and defines the results as well as the next steps. The documentation consists of the final presentation as a PowerPoint and a cost-benefit analysis in Excel format. This is already defined in the preparation phase. Additional documents are prepared to document the results of the analysis and a solution roadmap where required.
